Sunset on the Moorlands

The weather promised me that it the clouds would go for the sunset, but an hour before the sun would dip below the horizon line, it was still pretty cloudy.

Heather I decided it was worth the risk, and the trip out, so I put some clothes back on (I’d had a shower and gotten straight into my jim jams from the Abbey walk earlier in the day) and off we went up the hill out of the valley to the car park at the top. Heather

How patiently I waited when we got to the car park at the top! I wandered around trying to find a good patch of heather, set up shop and waited. The longer I waited the more the clouds parted.

Every day there has been a rainbow at around the same time (just before sunset) in the same place. How bizarre!

Isle of Arran – Day 2

Witches Step, North Sannox

After a rather miserable start to the morning, it brightened up around noon. We managed to squeeze in a couple of walks (North Sannox and Glen Sannox) as well as a trip to the distillery. Witches Step, North Sannox

A gym session in the morning and two walks has left us a bit pooped.

Isle of Arran Overall Arran is exceeding my expectations, which I had set low after Skye and Norway last year. Glen Sannox

Sunset – 4 September

The weather said it was going to be cloudy but sunny this evening, so I decided to go out to shoot the sunset. My idea was backlit heather. When I got to the place I was going to take the photo there were a few other people there. Some had been out and were going back to their car, others were there with camera in hand – maybe they’d had the same idea as me?
We were all to be disappointed if that was the case though, as the clouds were all along the horizon and so there wasn’t really a sunset worth photographing. This was actually the second shot I took, but I thought it wouldn’t work out so I carried on shooting. Turns out this was the only decent shot I had.

Rest of the Wales shots

Clearly I forgot to publish this, so it will be a bit of a photo dump of the last couple of days whilst we were in Wales !

Today there are gale force winds in Wales. So naturally we decided to go up a mountain. Where it was really exposed. And there was no where to get away from the wind. Classic idea!

Fallen from Grace

The day after we went to Yyns Llanddwyn. This was a great little place to visit, and one of the highlights of the trip for me. Although nothing will beat the ship wrecked boats!

Day 11 – South Stack

Today the weather forecast said it would rain heavily all afternoon. As seems to be the theme of this holiday, the weather forecast was wrong. Anyway, we set out with getting back before the weather turned in mind.

South Stack Lighthouse Getting to South Stack was straight forward, about a 15 minute drive from where we are stopping.

Overlooking the Bay

It was quite quiet, which is just what I like. Sadly though, my lighter ran out whilst we were there and so I couldn’t set off my smoke bomb 😦

South Stack On the way back to the car, a random herd of goats appeared! Naturally this involved whipping my skirt on and getting amongst them 😉 Amongst them

Day 2 – Aksla Utsiktspunkt

Ålesund, Black and White

Today we went up to the viewpoint at Aksla. We also bought loads of goodies from the supermarket.

View to Hoffland This morning we sat on the balcony at the hotel, before going on a little tour around Ålesund, and finally walking up to Aksla viewpoint. Ålesund, Aksla Viewpoint

Tomorrow we are going to go to Sukkertoppen as we ran out of time today, and it will take about 4 hours to walk to, up and back down. I think the weather from this point gets a bit more … hit and miss, as today has been lovely and sunny!

Day 1 – Norway, Ålesund

Today begins our week long trip to Norway. Norway has long been on my bucket list. Fjords, mountains, black metal, vikings. Perfect!
We had a long day yesterday as we had to drive to the airport, which was about 3 and a half hours. We finally checked into the hotel at the airport just after midnight.

Incoming This morning we had a casual 5 minute stroll to the check in desk, before having a relaxing few hours in the airport. Once we were in Norway I started with “oooh will you look at that” (The only correct response for cloud topped mountains), before the weather changed and Thor welcomed us with a thunderstorm. Ålesund, Norway

Once we were in the hotel and unpacked it blew over, and the rest of the evening has been warm and pleasant. Now, as I type this we are sat on the balcony at the back of the hotel. kB is drinking his £14 beer (!!!!) and we’re looking out at the various islands and mountains and watching the sun dip lower in the sky. It’s still light though, and it’s almost 10 o’clock.

Evening FIshing

Tomorrow we are going to go and get some bits from a supermarket, and explore the city. Apparently we can go on the Ålesund city tour for free, and I want to walk up to the Sukkertoppen and explore the area around there.

The Descent & The Other Side

The Descent

This was the image that I thought wasn’t going to work out. It was rather difficult to know where to stand so that the camera focused on my head. I then had to move to get the motion whilst trying to end up with my head in the same spot so that it remained in focus.

I had two other shots to fall back on if it didn’t work, but then, when I looked at the on the PC and started to edit them I rather liked this one. The shot that I took that I thought would be “the one” was the one I liked the least.

Strange how these things work out!
