Austria; Day 7 – Home time

Alpbach, Austria

All good things must come to an end. And so it was time to go home.

Goodbye Austria, you beautiful place!

Austria; Day 6 – Inneralpach and Sunset

Sunset, Austria

The weather forecast said it was going to be nice and sunny. The weather forecast lied. We hired a ebike and set off for Inneralpbach, in the drizzle.

Inneralpbach, Austria

It alternated between rain, drizzle and brief periods of no wet drops coming from the sky. It took us about 2 hours to cycle up the mountain; well as far as we could really get before it got too snowy.

Inneralpbach, Austria

The ebikes really did make it easier, but I’m not much of fan of cycling really. Maybe I need some padded shorts or something to make the experience more enjoyable!

We got back to the hotel in time for afternoon snacks, then had a big nap. When we woke up the skies had cleared and the promised sun had come out. So I went out to grab some sunset shots.

Austria; Day 3 and 4 – Rain!

Alpbach, Austria

We woke up to a bit of rain on the morning of day 3. kB decided that he was going to go to the gym, I decided to go out in the rain for a little walk around Alpbach.

Alpbach, Austria

I walked down to the river, through the woodlands and looped back around to the hotel. I stopped off behind the hotel and took some more shots there as well.

The thing I am enjoying the most (Other than the views) is how quiet it is!

On day 4 it was “proper rain” we stopped in the hotel and did a spa day kinda thing with the gym, pool and steam rooms!

Austria; Day 2 – Reith

Reith, Austria

As the weather forecast was good for today, we headed on the bus to the cable car in the next village. The cable car in Alpbach doesn’t open until June as there is too much snow at the top still!

Reith, Austria

We went up pretty early, then walked to the peak.

Reith, Austria

I think we took the more challenging route up, as the way back down was more of a gentle slope.

Alpbach, Day 1; Bischofer Josh

Not all who wander are lost

We start off with a hike. A hike to a marked view point on my map. Bischofer Joch. Which is about 1500m above sea level.

Alpbach, Austria

In the morning it was cold and overcast. The weather forecast said that it would be much like this all day. I had marked out several point of interest on the map, so we decided to tick off one of them.

Alpbach, Austria

We set off from the bus station outside the Boglerhof hotel, and walked up the side of the mountain (A very steep gradient to get the heart going), before following the A6 route across the side of the mountain.

Alpbach, Austria

I had set my eye upon getting to the top of the mountain, but it’s been snowing quite late in Austria in this region and it we were told it was too snowy to get all the way up. So we settled on the view point.

The walk was very well sign posted, and there was a little chalet serving food about 25 mins from the top. So we stopped off for a beer on the way up, and a cheese board on the way down.

On the way back down we followed the road. It was a lot less scenic but a lot faster. The sun was starting to dip towards the mountain so lovely long shadows were being cast.

Alpbach, Austria

The weather forecast was wrong though, because the cloud burnt off and it was lovely and sunny for most of the way. A bit too warm for my liking when hiking up the side of the mountain.

Lake Garda; Day 5 – Renon

This actually happened on Day 6. There was a day where we didn’t really do anything and I left my camera in the room.

Renon, Italy

We went on a train ride that was rather packed, we went on another gondola (One can never go on too many gondolas to be fair).

Featuring… The Dolomites from a different angle!

Lake Garda; Day 2 – Dolomites

I love a good mountain. I particularly enjoy to view the Alps from all angles. This an angle that I had not observed the Alps from. Until today.

Dolomites, Italy

Very good views. Best mountains yet!

The weather took a turn for the worse in the afternoon, but as we were on a coach it didn’t matter too much. Quite happy with these shots, especially considering they were taken in a moving vehicle.

The Lake District – Day 4; The Drive Home

Castle Cragg I had a lie in today, I didn’t get up until 730! Hehe The people who own the cottage I stopped in said they had noticed me leaving early every morning; the early bird catches the best light. Not much to report from today, other than the 3 hour drive was uneventful, but I did keep stopping on the way out of Derwent Water to grab shots. Derwent Water

Once I was on the A66 though it was a clear drive home, apart from toilet stops and petrol stops. The Lake District was lovely, and I’m glad I visited.
