Today is Blue Monday – which is the day where everyone is sad because Christmas is well and truly over, and summer seems like ages away. Danbo decided to nap through the day.
In the dark winter months I struggle to wake up, as I’m sure many other do. When it’s spring/summer/autumn I tend to wake up naturally around 7:30-8, but in winter I’m pushing for a 9am wake up. I’m going to assume that it’s to do with the lack of light – sunrise this morning was at 8:15am.
After two failed wind turbine photoshoots I decided that I wanted to get up and go shoot this morning. The weather forecast looked OK for the morning. It changed from clear, to misty, to cloudy in the days before, and as I went to bed last night it said it was going to be cloudy.
Knowing that the forecast isn’t always right (whilst praying for mist or intermittent clouds) I decided to set my alarm and get out there.
I was rewarded hen I woke up with a nice misty view out of the window. I hastily got dressed (red dress tucked into gym leggings, with wellies on the bottom is a killer combo) and headed out.
It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten up and gone for a sunrise photo – Covid put a stop to most holidays! What I wasn’t anticipating was how many dog walkers there would be. Silly of me really, and I got a few funny looks prancing around in a bright red dress bare foot whilst there was frost on the floor.
None the less it was a morning well spent I think!
I woke up this morning and there was a nice sunset coming up; so I grabbed by camera and my 500mm zoom lens an set up on my chest of drawers. Unfortunately in my excitement / rush to get out of the house for work on time I didn’t really check the photos.
I got home excited to edit them, but they weren’t quite in focus 😦 So here we have another flower. Hopefully the weather over the weekend will be OK so I can get out and shoot something different!
Today, when I got home from work the sun was still up. I played with the idea of getting in, swapping straight into my wellies and going back out. But I’ve been teaching all day and I decided that I just, quite simply, could not be bothered.
Had the sunset been an hour later, and I’d been able to grab a cuppa and have a little sit down, I would have gone out. By the time I’d worked up the energy to go for a walk, it was too late and the sun had already set. Which was a shame as the colours were really nice. Ho hum. The sun sets every day!
I feel like there is going to be a lot of house plants this year. I’m not apologising for it. This is a pink arrowhead plant. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that it’s called an arrowhead plant because the leaves look like arrow heads. Not that you can tell on this picture.
However it is the most delightful pink shade. I hope I don’t kill it…
As a special post Christmas treat to myself, I got serious lens-GAS (gear Acquisition Syndrome, basically when you want to buy something but you don’t really need it).
I spent ages looking at different lenses. Got convinced that I wanted the f0.95 that Fuji do. Talked myself out of that (As it’s £££). Wasn’t happy with the fact I’d not bought anything.
Spent a few more days tooing and froing with different prime lenses. Then came across the Venus Laowa 60mm 2:1 lens. For those not in the know, this means that the lens can portray objects 2x the size they are. So small objects will appear larger than they are.
I love a macro lens. So in my mind I justified this purchase.
I shall I add it to my 90mm and my 14mm macro lenses.
Because gal can never have enough macro lenses : )
We’ve been trying to get out for weeks and go for a walk, but the weather has either not been right, or we’ve had something on.
So this makes this little snowdrop the first official photo of 2019!
