Twycross Zoo

Dhole // 10 12 15

Today we went on the last ever (no longer) annual trip to Twycross Zoo with the Psychology students. It rained rather badly all day but we still all went around and looked at the animals.
One of my last aims was to shoot a fox before the end of the year, but this is likely to be as close as I get to a fox. It’s called a Dhole.

ButterflyIt should be remarked that the lady in the Butterfly house was lovely and pointed out some leaf butterflies that I would have otherwise missed!

Baby Lemur // 10 04 15100 // 365

I try to go to the Butterfly House once a year. Normally I go in February half term but for whatever reason this year I forgot, so I went today.
It was a nice sunny morning and I tried to get there just after opening (At 10) so that it wouldn’t be as busy. As usual I went straight to the Butterfly House section, and spent a good 20 minutes chasing butterflies around. Then I went to see the Lemurs… And there were baby lemurs ^_^
And otters :-B

Tropical Butterfly House, Sheffield068 // 365

This morning (quite literally, we got there before it was even open!) me and a couple of other photo friends went to the Tropical Butterfly House in Anston, Sheffield.
Mr Owl

I have been a couple of times before; which if you know that I used to be terrified of butterflies is quite the achievement! The first time I went I was a bit apprehensive, but ever since that first time I have been fine and dandy.
Mr Lemur

I’ve not been for just over a year. Last year I went in February half term, so it’s a week later.
It has changed a lot. Last year they were building the lemur enclosure, this year there were lemurs and (much to my absolute glee) otters. I *freaking* love otters. They are my most favourite animal ever.
It’s only a small place, but it is well worth a visit – especially (I guess) if you have small children (Everything is close together).
Mr Flutterby

Made doubly amazing by the fact that the weather is just delightful today! I’m always freezing cold unless it’s hot and I’m in direct sunlight (like a lizard if you will), but I had fairly thin tights on, and a thin cardi and I was OK!
Lovely day ^_^

Summer holiday (to France)

For the last week I have been in the north of France with kB, my mum and my dad.

This post will be the project 365 shots from the week, and a little comment, then I will do another post with spares.

Stuck on the road // 23 08 13
We started off the week with a trip to the supermarket in the morning, then a four hour drive to the ferry, four hours on the ferry (of which I was asleep before we had even left port) and then a 40 minute drive to the house. This was a quick “in the car” snap, as we got stuck in traffic.

The Lighthouse // 24 08 13
First day, and obviously we were tried. The weather was miserable too but we managed to go out for a walk in the late afternoon. We were based in Ingouville, just outside Saint-Valary-en-Caux

Approaching Storm // 25 08 13
Another miserable day, but it didn’t rain so we went out anyway. This was taken with my 10stopper filter at Veules-les-Roses.

Rouen, Abbey Church of Saint-Ouen // 26 08 13
We had a trip to Rouen to practice the drive there as we were catching the train to Paris there on Wednesday morning at 8am! It was about an hour away, although we did get lost when my dad decided to follow the sign posts rather than the sat nav – we ended up in an industrial estate.

Watching the sunset // 27 08 13
Lovely and hot on the Tuesday – and it was my dads birthday! We went to a beach that was very pretty, but I can’t remember the name of it.
Me and kB “got done” by a life guard because he was blowing his whistle because the tide was coming in but I wanted to take a shot so we ignored him… Only for a minute or so! He scowled at us as we came in. Did loads of walking then came home and went out for tea, today’s shot was taken just after tea 🙂

Eiffel Tower // 28 08 13
Super early start as we were catching a train at 8 to Paris. Nice day, but too busy for my poor knees : ( Saw most of the sights though : )

Flutterby // 29 08 13
Butterfly in the garden!
We went to another beach today, but they all kind of looked the same – did a couple of “weird” shots, one involving a corn field.

Washed Ashore // 30 08 13
Another beach! This one was called “the Beach of Death” because we saw 3 dead dogfish and countless dead crabs. Decided to just go for it with this shot, but as the tide was coming in rather quickly it’s not quite what I had in mind. Got soaked then had to lie in the sun to dry off – this was the first “proper” beach we had seen all week, all the others were just pebbles. Last day though so no more beachy funtimes : (

On the sea // 31 08 13
On the ferry on the way home : )
Sure early 3am get up to get to the ferry for 430 – did not envy my dads 4 hour drive home after that, and I napped most of the ferry ride and drive home!
A bit mardy from lack of sleep, but looking forward to getting into my own bed!

From every caterpillar

Started to get a little bit fed up of spending loads of time in Photoshop for surreal June so I’ve decided to go down this route as I am ill. Thought it was hayfever but now I have updgraded it through man flu to woman flu. All achey and tired and sniffly 😥 Woe.

It’s kB’s birthday tomorrow and I have baked him a Sachertorte (I think I’ve spelt that right…) now to go and ice it with some ganache and wrap up his presents ^-^

Tropical Butterfly House, Sheffield

As the weather is pants I’ve been looking for things to do inside. Today I decided to visit the Tropical Butterfly House which is only about 15 mins away from where I live. I’m actually quite scared of butterflies, birds… well animals in general really so it was quite a big deal going by myself.

The idea was that I could have a go at doing some macro photography with things which move, in preparation for spring and summer 🙂

Flutterby fly away

This photo is somewhat out of my comfort zone, but I’m hoping to keep practising at shots like it – practice makes perfect after all!

I’m reading a book and trying to try out new methods of taking photographs, so here goes…
