The Lake District – Day 4; The Drive Home

Castle Cragg I had a lie in today, I didn’t get up until 730! Hehe The people who own the cottage I stopped in said they had noticed me leaving early every morning; the early bird catches the best light. Not much to report from today, other than the 3 hour drive was uneventful, but I did keep stopping on the way out of Derwent Water to grab shots. Derwent Water

Once I was on the A66 though it was a clear drive home, apart from toilet stops and petrol stops. The Lake District was lovely, and I’m glad I visited.

The Lake District – Day 1; Catbells, Buttermere and Honister Pass

Catbells This morning I got up bright and early, and set off on a three hour drive to the Lake District. Sunset, Honsiter Pass

I arrived at Derwent Water at about 10, and after quickly unpacking and the people who own the accommodation pointing out the best walks I set off to hike up Catbells.

Sunset, Honsiter Pass This is my first solo holiday, and up until setting off up the mountain (It’s only a small one, but it’s still a mountain!) I was starting to regret going on my own. There is something about sharing a view with someone. Sunset, Buttermere

And there is definitely something about not having to carry 10KG of camera equipment, and a tripod, and your lunch and a bottle of water, and your layers all on your own. (Shout out to kB here, as he normally carries my layers, water and tripod!)

Sunset, Honsiter Pass I’m also petty rubbish at steep climbs with uneven steps, and this is what Catbells is at first. Catbells

Once I could see the summit I was fine, and going down it always easier that going up!

Catbells I then went back to the cottage for a bit, and had some lunch. Catbells

Then I set off out to Honister Pass, but I drove here. The sunset itself was a nothing event (too many mountains perhaps), but before the sun set the sky was a lovely colour.

Catbells I finished off by trying to get the a jetty at Derwent Water, but the one closest to where I am staying had about 5 people setting up fairy lights on it, so I left it and came home. Catbells

Pizza and sticky toffee pudding for tea, and I am more than ready for bed!

Monsal Dale (and Trail)

Headstone Viaduct, Monsal Trail Today we decided to go for a walk in the Peak District. Monsal Trail is somewhere I have been before, but I’ve never seen the viaduct from the hilltop, only walked over it. View into the Valley

We set off early (because in the UK the clocks went back last night, meaning that when we got up at 8 our bodies thought it was 9) and when we got there there was plenty of parking.

View into the Valley We were following a route from the Walking Englishman, but skipped bits of it because we didn’t have a lot of change for parking! haha View into the Valley

It was miserable all day. I did wonder if the mist would burn off and the clouds might get more interesting, but no. It stayed grey and misty all day.

Woodland Walks – 11 September

Woodland Walk (Silhouetted Trees)
Silhouetted Trees

This afternoon (late afternoon!) we went for a little walk – just for an hour or so. We went to Eckington Woods and it was lovely and warm, but there was a definite coolness in the air. The light was lovely ^_^ and some leaves have started to turn, but most of them are still green… for now!

Backlit – 5 September

First day back at work today. I was full of big ambitions when I got in from work; ambitions about HIIT training and oven cleaning. In fact I managed to have a nap. I did manage to finish cleaning the oven whilst cooking tea #multitasking, and I did my HIIT after tea at the gym with my mum. So I did everything I planned to do, just not quite in the order I planned on doing it.

Today’s shot is from the field next to my house, taken in the gap between tea and going to the gym. Most of the field had been mowed recently, but there is a patch of grass near some trees at the far side which never gets mowed. I walked into the grass, realised I was surrounded by big fat spiders and backed slowly out. I then went to the less grassy area of grass and took this.

After the Rain – September 2nd

Day 2 of autumn saw a rainy start. The kind of drizzle that gets you really wet. I was unsure when to go out; the forecast said cloudy all day but that the sun might break through at sunset. I didn’t want to leave my photo so late on in the day (The forecast might be wrong after all!) so I waited for the rain to ease off and went out.
My original idea was to use the rain in my shots, however that didn’t work out due to the kind of rain that it was – no puddles had formed, and everything was a bit moist and a bit drippy.

Despite not intending to be in a shot, this is the shot I’ve ended up with today.

Tomorrow I’m having to drive my brother to the airport, so I’m hoping to get a shot on the way back.

The Start of Autumn

Today is the official start of autumn. So to celebrate my favourite time of year I’ve decided to take a photo each day throughout September and October.
When I went out today I limited myself to one lens. So my kit was:
• Pentax k3
• Tamron 90mm macro lens 2.8

Sun on the leaves I really liked the way the sun was hitting these leaves as I walked into the woods. I had wondered if the sun would still be too harsh, given that it was August yesterday, but I didn’t need to worry. Acorn

Who can resist an acorn!

In the Woods I thought the tree on the left looked a bit dark and spooky. So naturally I had to take a picture. Dragonfly

I was able to get up close to this little fellow who just sat there minding his own business. There was a really massive bright yellow dragonfly buzzing around, but unfortunately he didn’t stop still so I couldn’t catch him.

Tomorrow I was thinking about getting up and shooting the sunrise. Then I checked the weather and it said it would be misty (This is fine), then I checked the weather again and it says no mist just heavy clouds. I suppose I will have to monitor it!
